This is one of the things I love about Japanese.  This shows some something simple as one stroke can change a radical which can completely change the meaning of a kanji  There are thousands of examples of this but I always loved this example.
The one that stays the same between the two means “temple” and the one the changes goes from from “walking person” (Wait!) to “Person” (Samurai).
walking person + temple = wait
person + temple = samurai
There’s some history/etymology lesson in there but I just don’t know it.
There are actually many many more radicals you can put on the left side of temple to turn it into a completely different word, for example “持って” which means “carry” and uses the radical for “cow”. or 時 which uses the radical for “sun/day” and means “time”.

Yeah, Japanese is so complicated when we talk about kanjis, especially when you cannot make the strokes as your wish.
